Due to our ongoing success we are delighted to be advertising for another key role to support the management team in our Middlesbrough office.
We are looking for a Principal Process Engineer / Section Lead to manage our local Process Engineering Design team in Middlesbrough. This is a hands on role where you will be involved in driving the department forward while maintaining a hands on design role.
The Role
You will supervise, monitor and technically direct the team to ensure safe, fit for purpose designs are completed accurately, to cost and programme, in line with client requirements.
Overall Role
- Day to day management, supervision and resourcing of the Process team.
- Focal point for all Process design activities.
- Undertake the role of lead process design engineer on major projects.
- Drive the section to be the best design resource available to our clients.
Core Activities
- Ensure high standards of quality and efficiency are maintained and client’s requirements are met through compliance with and continual improvement of ISO9001 quality procedures.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK, European and industry / client standards along with meeting safety and environmental requirements.
- Ensures robust checking, verification and approval procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Ensure high levels of accuracy.
- Ensure effective cost and programme controls are in place and targets are met.
- Minimise non chargeable hours within the section.
- Maximise profit within the section.
- Production of estimates, design and construction activities and quotations.
Supporting Activities
- Ensure effective communication with other teams.
- Develop the section to utilise appropriate new technology and software to improve efficiency, quality of work and to remain competitive.
- Liaison with client and subcontractors to develop business and resolve problems should they occur.
Resource Related Activities
- Responsible for training and personal development of civil structural resources.
- Responsible for the development of the section to support clients requirements.
Person Specification
- A Chemical degree is essential.
- Chartered status is desirable.
- Demonstrable experience working in a process engineering design team, within either a petrochemical, chemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical or food and beveridge industry.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of HAZOP, DSEAR and ATEX in a COMAH environment.
- Ability to lead a team to work towards predefined goals with a high level of autonomy and to produce high quality results
- Passion for and track record for delivering safe, fit for purpose, accurate design, completed to cost and programme.
- Ability to be adaptable and to drive progress to meet targets.
- Thorough approach with attention to detail and the ability to recognise and minimise risks
- Pro-active approach to safety, with good appreciation of UK compliance requirements in design and familiarity with modern standards in the areas of Safety, Health and Environment, and Quality Assurance
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Ability to organise and monitor design activities
- Good interpersonal skills, be able to work as part of a team and build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients.
